Also we went over a handout showing how to find major and minor thirds on the ukulele. Use the handout of 3rds and 6ths to practice playing these intervals. This is the best way to learn to play harmonized melodies. For fun, practice the harmonies by trying to pay Obladi.
Also good work on Bella Bocca Polka with flat picks. Keep working on this: getting the notes solid so that you can begin to build speed. We will work on this one to play for the Dec 6 BUG Jam.
Remember to work on your Bb scale - major scale pattern starting on the G string. I have attached the scale page that I gave you before in case you need a copy.
For Next Week:
We'll warm up with the Bb,
Then some exercises from the Thirds and Sixths in the key of C page -3rds on the 1st and 2nd Strings (5th line) and 6ths on 1st and 3rd strings (2nd line).
Then we'll practice Bella Bocca Polka.
Then we begin to work on Las Chaparreras (slow version attached below). This is a an interesting tune with rhythmic challenges. Please listen to this song a lot to absorb the rhythms, and I think it is easier to get a feel for this songs with the CD version (not slow). Although it is written in 6/8 time, it really feels more like a Waltz. Also There are some grace notes that are all pull-offs. We'll work on this in class next week.
As I said last night, we will NOT finish Book 3 this session. I will begin to work on a proposal for a course to complete the book when I get back in Feb. The class would begin in on Feb 17.
