Also, we played Charlie is My Darling - a charming song in 6/8 time.
Next Week - Slavonic Dance. If you have already worked on the melody for this song then work on the high harmony (in last week's blog). I would like to be able to play both parts with chords next week. Everyone practice the chords. This is GREAT chord practice particulary with minor chords, some ofthem new.
*** As I mentioned in class last night, many of the songs in Book 3 present us with some new challenges: New chords and more chord changes, bigger musical intervals, more complex rhythms, playing in minor keys, etc. You will probably find it increasingly more difficult to keep up if you don't put in your practice time.
Also - Please practice The Wayfaring Stranger (pg 24) - this is in the key of Dm (same key signature as F, it's relative major). The notes are note hard in the piece and we will use it for a harmony exercise.
We may begin to look at To See Swainson, if we have time.
***** November 15 - The Canote Brothers will be giving a strumming workshop (1:00) and short concert (3:00) at St James Presbyterian. I will have tickets in class in a couple of weeks. Check it out. They are soooo fun. http://www.canote.com
***** I am looking for a few new people to be in the Orchestra after the first of the year. The most important qualities are cheerfulness, willingness to learn, commitment to making rehearsals and performances and to learning the music. There is a set of guidelines attached below to give you an idea of the skills you should stive for. I am the director and (benevolent) dictator of the Orchestra. We practice on Monday Nights. Please don't be shy about asking me if you are interested. You probably underestimate your own ablilities and overestimate what you need to be part of the group.
