And, Oh Yes….. Bb
This week (after playing a bit of the harmonized scale in C) we warmed up with the Russian Lullaby - very nice work.
We then tackled Era Una Vez - both classes made it all the way through, playing in two parts.
We began to talk about intervals - we'll return to this concept
We worked a bit on the Little Red Fox
and the Bb chord…. which will take to get.

For next week:
continue to practice Era Una Vez
The Little Red Fox - slow version on the resource page
Exercises using the Bb chord shape (pg 14) - remember..don't move your fingers!
Purcell Canon - shift up the neck for the high E

The Journey Continues - Book 2

It's great to see everyone back for more…..
Last night we warmed up with a couple of songs from Book 1.  You don't need to bring that book to class anymore.
We then launched right in the the RED book (Book 2) and learned about the harmonized scale in the key of C. That basically means the chords that go (harmonize)  with the notes of the C scale.
We then played the Crawdad song which I am always surprised that not everybody knows. It's easy and fun and we will revisit that song often.
We then talked about Roman Numerals used in place of numbers for the chords in the scale  We have already learned that the 1, 4, and  5 chords are the major chords in any given key. In musical terms, the Roman Numerals I, IV, and V are used to identify these major chords.
Next we reviewed the rhythm, and some other aspects, of Era Una Vez, which we will play next week. The slow version of this in on the Resource Page for Book 2. Listen to this song on your CD to get the "feel" of the lively Latin rhythm.
I also passed out some Canons and we will play the Russian Lullaby next week. Also on the Resource Page.
Finally we played and sang the song "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" Chords for that song are I, IV, I, V (or C, F, C, G in the key of C). Try playing it by ear. The chords are the same all the way through and change very regularly.
For next week, please practice:
Exercises on pages 2-3, and 5
Era Una Vez
and Russian Lullaby (Canon)
