Big Yellow Taxi
Program Notes:
Big Yellow Taxi by Jimmy Abraham - arranged by Jerry Canote
Metronome - 100. First note - B. Key of G.
The Intro: The Blues Turn-A-Round in G, ending the intro on D7. Jerry's sheets provide the needed details.
Here is a YouTube link of Jimmy Abraham playing and singing all the verses of Big Yellow Taxi.
We will perfect the strum pattern Jerry calls the Swing Chop. Down Down Down Down, emphasize 2nd and 4th beats. Dampen the chords by strumming and almost immediately releasing the left hand pressure. Use as many closed chord as possible - EXCEPT for the E7, which may sound better as 1202 rather than 2434. Choose whichever you think sounds and works best for you.
The Outro: Last line, "Big Yellow Taxi, Big Long Silver-" (x3), then "Train" at the end and again play the Blues Turn-A-Round, ending with a G chord.
