Things people want to work on:
remembering chords and making smooth chord changes
Strumming and some variations on strumming patterns
timing - rhythm
ear training - hearing chord changes and playing by ear
Ensemble playing - listening and playing together in harmony.
so …. we first working on keeping a steady strum rhythm letting your right hand be your metronome. Never stop the up - down movement of your forearm. Use the fingernail on your first finger for strumming. make a pistol with your hand then curve your pointer finger into a hook. The stumming movement of your hand is like gently flicking a drop of water off of your finger.
Attached below is a sheet of strums patterns - we can go through some of them next week.
Also - drill and practice daily the chord progression in Round her neck she wears a Yellow Ribbon (pg 17), Yes …. learn them without looking at your fingers. Just play the progression over and over. Go as slowly as you need to but try to keep a steady beat.
Ear training ….. Buffalo Gals - A 2 chord song to play by ear in C , and then in G, and then in F. Close your eyes and listen for when the chord must change to harmonize with the melody. Just feel it !
